Association AchievementsAchievements since WPNA inceptionSecuritySince 1991, our Association has maintained a security patrol staffed by off duty City of Atlanta police officers to provide additional security protection for our members, including the establishment of an out-of-town monitoring program for Association Members. SidewalksOur Association obtained a special City of Atlanta ordinance which permitted the construction of four (4) foot sidewalks two feet from the road along West Paces Ferry Road from Paces Forest Road to Northside Drive, raised the funds to construct the sidewalks, and oversaw the installation of the sidewalks. Traffic IssuesThe Association has been instrumental in addressing several neighborhood traffic issues, including, Speed HumpsThe Association successfully lobbied the City of Atlanta to install speed humps on Rilman Road and Pinestream Road. Traffic LightsThe Association successfully lobbied the City of Atlanta to install a traffic light at the corner of Rilman Road and West Paces Ferry Road. Zoning IssuesOur Association has been instrumental in several key zoning issues, including: Forum ProjectSuccessfully opposing a proposed 2.1 million square feet shopping mall on the site of the current Forum Development, effectively limiting the development to the zoning classification that was in existence prior to the commencement of the project. The Association earlier successfully opposed a proposed luxury hotel development on this same property. Mann HouseSuccessfully opposing a zoning proposal that would have allowed the construction and operation of a congregate and long-term health care facility along West Paces Ferry Road. AT&T Cell TowerWorked with City of Atlanta officials to redesign the AT&T Cell Tower at the Atlanta Water Works property at the corner of Moores Mill and Northside Drive to appear as a native pine tree. Safety IssuesOur Association has worked with area shopping centers to make them safer for our Members, including an initiative during the 1990s to increase the night lighting at the three (3) neighborhood shopping centers. Working Through NPU ASubdivision OrdinanceWorked with the City of Atlanta to establish a workable subdivision ordinance Tree OrdinanceWorked with officials to establish a feasible and practical tree ordinance GRTACoordinated development planning with GRTA to protect the single family character of the West Paces Ferry/Northside Neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods Zoning IssuesReviewed a large number of zoning issues having potential for very significant impact on our neighborhood, including:
Citizens' Advisory CommitteeEstablished a Citizens' Advisory Committee for Zone 2 of the Atlanta Police Department, the result of which is a bimonthly meeting between the Zone 2 Commander and interested neighborhood groups to review neighborhood criminal activity. Shopping Center Lighting and SafetyWorked with neighborhood shopping centers and Georgia Power to improve lighting for the safety of shoppers and employees. Traffic LightsWorked with the City of Atlanta to modify traffic lights at West Conway/Mount Paran Road and Moores Mill/West Wesley Road. |
